Research shows that the Apple TV sales in the Netherlands fell sharply in 2017. Nevertheless, the device has a lot to offer, but Apple does not know how to communicate this in the right way.
Apple TV sales in the Netherlands are falling sharply
Although more and more people are subscribing to Netflix and other streaming services, the Dutch sales of the Apple TV in the Netherlands have fallen significantly. A study by GfK shows that there were 67,438 Apple TVs sold in the Netherlands in 2016, a year later this was only 30,754.
In the meantime, the Dutch sales of the Chrome cast are rising rapidly from 385 thousand in 2016 to 429 thousand in 2017. And give the consumer a difference: if you are looking for a device that allows you to stream Netflix and YouTube to your TV, the choice between an Apple TV of 159 euros or Chrome cast of 39 euros quickly made.
Yet the Apple TV has a lot more to offer than the cheaper cupboard from Google. But for the average consumer this is not immediately clear. Apple misses the mark by focusing hard on the features that the Chromecast also has, forgetting to mention the distinctive qualities.
More versatile and complete than Chromecast
For example, a Chromecast is lost if you do not have an iPhone or Mac around to drive it. The Apple TV works completely independently and has a remote control that also controls the volume of your TV. Thanks to this Siri Remote you can also use the voice assistant without help from your iPhone to quickly search for a series or video.
The Apple TV also gives you more freedom to adjust the settings. For example, set how the subtitles appear in the picture or let the full menu get a dark color in the evenings.
In addition, the Apple TV has an App Store that is full of games and services that you do not see on a Chromecast or standard Smart TV. For example, many fun games have appeared in recent years, which are certainly worthwhile for a younger audience.
Also do not forget that the Apple TV serves as a hub for your Home Kit devices, so you can control all your smart lights from your iPhone when you are away from home. The black case is also the fastest way to stream the screen from your iPhone or Mac to your TV.
That makes the Apple TV especially a much more complete and versatile product than the Chrome cast. However, look at the page about the Apple TV on Apple’s website and it’s 80 percent about functions that Google’s product also has. By presenting the Apple TV as a Home Kit hub and (simple) game console, in addition to watching films and series , that 159 euro is a lot more logical.
Who knows, Apple may adjust this image in 2018 if the company presents its TV service. Apple’s TV cabinet is in all respects a valuable and complete extension of your television, but as with the other products of the company from Cupertino, you pay the main prize for this.
