With the Remote app, your iPhone turns into a full remote control for your Apple TV . In this tip you can read exactly how to connect the app to your Apple TV and what the possibilities are.
Apple TV Remote app linking: that’s how it works
With the Siri Remote that comes with the Apple TV, you can of course control the device very well, but in practice our iPhone is always in our pocket, so that it is more often in the neighborhood. You can also simply link the Remote app to the third and second generation Apple TV. The method of doing this remains the same.
Before you go through the steps below to connect the Apple TV Remote app to your Apple TV, it’s important that your iOS device and Apple TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This allows them to communicate with each other, so for example, check whether you are inadvertently not using 4G with your iPhone.
- Turn on the Apple TV and open the Apple TV Remote app;
- Tap “Add Apple TV” in the app;
- Select the Apple TV from the list of devices;
- Enter the four-digit code that now appears on your TV (via the Apple TV).
Possibilities of the Remote app
Now that the devices are connected, your iPhone screen looks like a Siri Remote. So you come across all the buttons that are also on the remote control, and you can fast forward and rewind ten seconds. The gray area at the top of the image is a trackpad that you can use to navigate through the menus.
The great advantage of the Remote app is that you also have a keyboard at hand, which makes the search much faster and easier. You can download the Remote app via the link below, provided you have iOS 9.3.2 or higher. As soon as the new version of tvOS appears, we can also search in the Netherlands with our voice via Siri. Until then, the built-in keyboard is at least a nice intermediate step.
